Fall Equinox Courthouse Glow

September 22 @ 6:45 pm

Picture Pittsfield is teaming up with the local Masons for the “Courthouse Glow” Sept. 22. Picture Pittsfield and the Pittsfield Lodge #790 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons are hosting an informal event at the Pike County Courthouse starting at 645 p.m. Thursday Sept. 22, on the east side of the courthouse. During the autumnal equinox, or first day of fall, the setting sun hits the courthouse just right and the center of it “glows” orange.
The Masons will be on hand to talk about this phenomenon, and how the cornerstone was set. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to capture the “glow” with their phones and cameras. The effect only lasts about 10 minutes, from 6:45 to 7:03 p.m., so the public needs to arrive promptly. The event is free. However we strongly suggest bringing seating or lawn chair to enjoy the event! This event is the same day as the Hocus Pocus Fest! Before the glow we will be shopping and celebrating with some of Pittsfield’s finest businesses. Hocus Pocus fest starts at 10am!
