The annual Marvin J and Thomas Leo Likes Lecture Series will take place each Tuesday evening in June at 7 pm Central Time beginning June 7. With two years of online success, we gather online again this year, via Zoom. The lectures are free and open to the public, but you must sign up for the zoom link. To do so, email newphiladelphiail@gmail.com
The series began in 2004 as part of the archaeology NSF-REU field school and was open to the public. The Likes Lectures are named to honor surveyors Marvin Likes and son Tom who donated so much time and talent to New Philadelphia.
New Philadelphia: Interpreting our history and the people who helped shape it…is the theme of the 2022 Likes Lecture Series, which features four fascinating topics and speakers.
This year’s schedule includes:
June 7: The New Philadelphia and Lincoln University Connection with Brigadier General Donald Scott, retired
June 14: McWorter’s New Philadelphia and Other Settler Communities in western Illinois with Dr. Nancy Davis
June 21: Women of New Philadelphia with Claire Martin
June 28: The New Phil AR 2 mobile app at the New Philadelphia National Historic Landmark with Jon Amakawa
