CAMPING

Campers will enjoy the natural settings in Pike County. Camping sites in Pike County can accommodate everything from simple tents to luxury recreation vehicles. You can even rent a tipi or a cottage. The lake sites offer fishing and boating. There are some hiking and bicycle trails. Recreational activities vary by site.

BOATING

There is public access at the marina at Route 54 and further north at Cincinnati Landing for boating on the mighty Mississippi River.

Just south of the route 106 bridge at Florence is access to the Illinois River. Lake Pittsfield allows motorboats to a maximum of 10 h.p. At Pine Lakes canoes, rowboats and paddle boats can be rented.

FISHING

Being situated between two rivers and containing two lakes, Pike County offers some pretty good fishing. Both the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers offer a wide variety of fish. The impressive list includes large mouth bass, white bass, channel cat, flat head cat, carp, crappie, freshwater drum, blue gill, sauger and walleye. At lake Pittsfield you can catch hybrid striped bass, large mouth bass, carp, crappie, channel cat, blue gill and walleye. Pine Lakes has good fishing too with bass, blue gill, channel cat, carp and crappie.

HUNTING

With its rolling hills, hardwood forests and streams, Pike County is prime hunting country. There is a public conservation area and some private hunting preserves. White tail deer are abundant. Pike is usually first in Illinois with the number of deer harvested each year. Wild turkey hunting is great too.

Turkey

Check out the hunting preserves for pheasant, quail and chukar partridge. Wild duck and goose hunting is available. The local hunting experts can help you with everything from dog training to practice shooting Blue Rock and Sporting Clays.

GOLFING

Barry Golf Course

Yes, you can even play golf in Pike County. Check out the public nine hole course at Barry. You will find it a challenging, user friendly course. The atmosphere may be more relaxed than you are used to.

HORSEBACK RIDING

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding in Pike County is a special treat. The natural settings provide scenic trailrides. Our horses are ready and waiting to take you on a lazy afternoon ride.
