Brief
History of the Color Drive:
The Pike County Color Drive was started by some county people
who wanted to promote the arts and crafts done by various county residents
In 1988 the participating towns and villages had only a few booths, some had just a yard sale and displayed whatever crafts they were making at the time
It was often thought that they should form a committee of interested people to advertise both near and far for all to come see the crafts Pike County had to offer. They also wanted to share the traditional food, and make everyone feel welcome.
Now, many items, demonstrations, fun activities, and wonderful food is offered yearly to tempt you back to see the friendly folks. Our fall colors are spectacular, come to see it for yourself.
Location
and Things to see:
Pike, mainly and agricultural community, is nestled in western Illinois between
the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. The terrain includes flood plains, river
bluffs, rolling hills, and some prairies. Indian mounds are in abundance in
the county as well.
Get off the beaten path and enjoy a scenic drive through Pike County. Keep your eye out for old barns, one room schoolhouses, and country churches. Small settlements of houses indicate locations of once thriving little villages in horse and buggy days
