Pike County is fortunate to be part of the John Wood Community College District, one of 39 community college districts in Illinois. The second-youngest community college in the state, John Wood was founded in 1974 in order to provide residents with high-quality, affordable programs in higher education. It admitted its first students (668 of them) in fall 1975. JWCC opened a new state-of-the art facility, the John Wood Community College Southeast Education Center at 39637 260th Avenue in Pittsfield in August of 2017.
