The centerpiece for health care delivery in Pittsfield is Illini Community Hospital (ICH) which is located in the center of town. The hospital is a 25 bed critical access hospital, and is one of seven entities of the Blessing Hospital System in Quincy. The hospital has arthroscopic and laporscopic equipment, a radiology department with a CT scanner, and radiographic and fluoroscopy equipment. Clinical services and the emergency room are staffed 24 hours a day. Surgeries are performed by local surgeons and visiting specialists. When more advanced care is required, cases are transferred to the medical centers of the patient/ family's choice, usually to Quincy, Springfield, or St. Louis.
Illini Community Hospital was founded in 1942 as a not-for-profit, non-governmental, charitable organization by a group of citizens interested in improving the health care in the community. Today, Illini Community Hospital continues its mission to "be a community provider of health care services by coordinating, promoting, enhancing, and restoring good health."
