El Dara
A
local prominent citizen journeyed to Mexico around
1847. On his return he spoke of the Mexican town
Eldora. The settlers took a fancy to the name and
used the name for their town. They misspelled it,
however, and the town became El Dara.
There
are two original church buildings in town. One was
built in 1854 and the other in 1876. An old general
store that used to house a bank and a post office
is now a community center.
