The Seventh Annual “Girls Night Out” on the Square in Pittsfield will be Thursday, November 3rd. It will take place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at over 35 host businesses around the Square.
There will be plenty of opportunity to shop locally that evening as well as special offers, food, fun, and an opportunity to get Christmas shopping done early- all this right here in beautiful Pike County.
New this year: door prizes will be displayed and drawn in the individual host businesses. There will not be a wrap up party.
Ladies can begin their shopping adventure by picking up their purple Girls Night Out shopping bag donated by Illini Community Hospital. The bags will be located in four businesses, one at each corner of the downtown area. The bag pick up locations are Heaton Chevrolet, Profiler (formerly Magic Nail), US Cellular, and Miller Furniture. Bags will not be available until 4 PM on Thursday. The bags will contain a map of the shopping area and a list of participating businesses.
In addition to the door prize drawings being done in the businesses ther will again be a Grand Prize. Each participating business will give one ticket for the Grand Prize drawing. The more businesses you visit, the more chances to win! Ladies can also earn an additional Grand Prize ticket for each $15 purchase from a host business (purchases from outside vendors do not qualify). Once the ladies have visited the businesses, the Grand Prize tickets collected should be taken to the Farmers State Bank Drive-Thru at the corner of Adams and Madison (northwest corner of the Square). There will be a drum in which to deposit the tickets.
The Grand Prize is a gift certificate donated by Heartland Lodge for two girls to attend their Amazing Girls Weekend in January valued at over $550. One Grand Prize ticket will be given to each lady by each host business. Additionally, ladies can earned an additonal ticket for each $15 purchase from a participating host business (purchases from vendors are not included). Country Financial will have a prize package valued at $400 with gift card and certificates from local businesses. See them at Pikeland Motors.
J Roberts Jewelers will be giving away a cut diamond and choice of a pendant mounting or ring mounting. Here's how it works: buy a champagne glass for $5.00. Each glass will have a stone in the bottom of it. There will be 199 CZ'S and 1 diamond. All proceeds from the champagne glasses will be donated to the Pittsfield Police Department. Retail value on it is $750.00

A LOOK BACK AT PREVIOUS YEARS:
2013 Girls Night Out (co-sponsored with Pittsfield Main Street)
The fourth annual “Girls Night Out on the Square” in Pittsfield was a big success. Begun in 2010 by Pittsfield Main Street and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce as a way to promote local shopping and highlight the many great businesses in the area, participation has grown every year. We estimate that this year’s crowd was over 230 ladies.
Held the first Thursday in November each year, this year’s event took place on November 7th, 2013 with shopping from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at thirteen businesses around the Square. There were four corporate sponsors of the 2013 Girls Night Out. We wish to thank United Community Bank, the William Watson Hotel, Carrie Boyd, Pike County State’s Attorney, and Farmers State Bank for their support.
A lot of planning went into Girls Night Out. Christy Davenport and Karen Fesler from Pittsfield Main Street and myself (Kaye Iftner from the Chamber) met regularly to discuss feedback from previous events and brainstorm new ideas. We decided to focus on the retail businesses participating, and to survey them for input on several issues. The first issue was whether or not to include “outside vendors”, independent contractors who sell things like Pampered Chef, Scentsy, to name just a few. The other question was regarding the hours. Based upon majority rule, we extended the hours 1/2 hour on each side and allowed the participating businesses to bring in vendors. The outside vendors were asked to provide a door prize.
We also created a special Facebook page “ Girls Night Out on the Square in Pittsfield” where both organizations could post.
There were a few new additions to “Girls Night Out”. First was a wrap-up party held at and sponsored by Farmers State Bank from 7 PM until 8:30 PM. There the ladies were treated to a large chocolate fountain with tables full of wonderful goodies for dipping as well as other wonderful items. The donated door prizes were on display and door prize drawing was done there. The second was a mini “taste of downtown”. The six restaurants on or near the Square were asked if they would provide trays of food to show off items from their menus. We thank Catering & More, Courtyard Café, Leo’s Pizza, Old Boys Pizza (Lindsay’s), The Red Dome, and The Brick on Madison for their support.
The participating businesses this year were Casteel’s, Flowers-N-More, J. Roberts Jewelers, Just Di’s, Magic Nails, Pike County Collectibles, Pikeland Motors, Temptations, The Hen House, The Reach Out Center, United Community Bank, US Cellular and the William Watson Hotel. Ladies had the opportunity to visit these locations, shop, enjoy great food and beverages and have fun. There were special offers, plenty of vendors selling many popular items, and great opportunities to get Christmas shopping done early- all this right here in beautiful Pike County.
Although the ladies could start wherever they chose, we offered an incentive for them to visit all the businesses. In order to qualify for the door prize drawing, ladies were required to visit all 13 of the businesses and have a card initialed, punched or stamped at that business to qualify for the door prize drawing. Cards were available at the start of the night at all of the businesses and could be left at the lady’s final stop or brought to the wrap up party. A record number of cards were turned in - 179 completed cards! We know many more ladies just came to hang out with friends, have fun, visit their favorite stores.
Our estimate of 230 ladies is probably conservative, but it is double 2012! Looking forward to 20
Past "Girls Night Out" events
The second annual Girls Night Out on the Square in Pittsfield was held Thursday, November 3rd, 2011. The flyer containing details is attached here.
Designed to promote local shopping in Pike County and highlight the businesses on the Square (many of them Chamber members), this year's event appears to be a big success. We estimate over 100 women participated! One new feature we added this year was a stamp card listing all the participating businesses. Those ladies visiting all ten stops and getting this card stamped or initialed were entered into the door prize drawing. Over 75 ladies turned in completed cards! We also added Lindsay's Tavern as a place to begin and end the evening of shopping if desired.
