The Chamber's 18th Annual Golf Tournament was Friday, April 27th 2012 at Bow Lake Golf Course in Barry.

The 17th Annual Pike County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament took place Friday, April 29th at Old Orchard Country Club in Pittsfield. Eighteen four-person teams representing businesses and individuals from all over Pike County and Quincy participated.  Despite a rainy spring, the day of the tournament was sunny and breezy.  It was a day filled with good fellowship and good golf. Kent Hawley, president of the Chamber Board of Directors welcomed the group.  “There is an abundant choice of golf outings you could attend” said Hawley, “we are so grateful you are here today.  Your support helps us help the county”.  Hawley then presented the rules of the tournament and the various contests, and the shotgun start proceeded at 9:00 am.

COUNTRY Financial sponsored Hole-in-one Contests on Hole numbers 7, 16 and 4.  The prize on Hole # 7 was $10,000; on Hole #16 it was a Bose Sound system; and on Hole #4 it was a Visa Gift card or a set of Nike irons.  Unfortunately, there were no hole-in-one winners during the tournament, but the prospect of winning certainly created a buzz among the golfers.

There were a number of other contests held during the Chamber Tournament.  The Flight A winner was Country Financial.  Each team member took home $50.  Taking first place in the B Flight was the team sponsored by Niebur Funeral Homes, with each member winning $25.  A pot of $360 in skins money was split.

The Closest to the Pin contest on Hole # 4, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual Financial, was won by Melvin Gilbert.  Melvin took home a duffle bag filled with miscellaneous items.  The Closest to the Pin contest on Hole #7, sponsored by Hiemer & Associates, was won by Mike Brinkman.  The Longest Drive contest (Hole #1) sponsored by J.D. Ross & Associates was won by Bruce McKee.

Hole Sponsors were invited to set up on the Tee Box of their sponsored holes, promote their businesses and interact with the golfers.  Five of the sponsors did so, and everyone seemed to enjoy the networking.  Chamber representatives served hotdogs donated by Save-A-Lot at the shelter house on the course and all golfers received goodie bags containing items donated by local businesses. The day’s event concluded with a lunch provided by Chamber member County Market and a 50/50 drawing.  A good time was had by all.

The Chamber received many positive comments about the event. Our Golf Tournament is not just a great networking opportunity; it is a major fundraiser for us.  We are grateful to all of the businesses who support us.  We wish to thank our hole sponsors for the 17thAnnual Chamber Golf Tournament:  Carlinville National Bank (Pittsfield Banking Center), City of Griggsville, Country Financial, Eagle One Investments, Farmers National Bank of Griggsville, Farmers State Bank, and Illini Community Hospital.  Thanks to Save-A-Lot and County Market for the food and Refreshment Services Pepsi for providing the beverages.

In addition, the Chamber recognizes and thanks the Chamber 2011 Corporate Sponsors:  VIP Sponsors Casteel’s and United Community Bank, First Class Sponsor Casey’s General Store, and Business Class Sponsors Farmers Bank of Liberty, Pine Lakes Resort, Pike County Farm Bureau, Illini Therapy and Fitness, and International Eyecare Center.
